Carbon Reduction Technology (CRT) are an UK-Indian company that manufactures and supplies eco lighting. The low carbon LED retrofit lighting which uses a patented micro-processor based control system.
The control system manages the 5 key variables that impact the performance of LEDs to ensure an optimum level of efficiency for the e-lamp, which is 25% more efficient than its nearest LED street light rival. When compared with traditional High Pressure Sodium street lights CRT’s system provides a massive 75% saving in energy consumed and carbon output.
With research and manufacturing based in India, the main commercial base is in the UK where it is headed by the brothers Alan and William Robson. Having self-funded the research and development phase and created a number of prototypes to prove the technology, CRT realised they needed further investment to enable them to take their product to market.
As part of their fund raising activity William and Alan presented at the 2009 Venturefest competition (www.venturefestyorkshire.net) where Neil Ewin and Mark Woodward were on the judging panel.
Neil and Mark were immediately impressed both by the market opportunity for CRT and the enthusiasm and competence of the presentation by William and Alan, and over the following months spent a considerable amount of time with CRT getting to know the company, the product and the market and helping develop a comprehensive business plan culminating in their investment.
On working with Neil and Mark, Alan comments “Our problem is that there is so much we ‘could do’ with our technology that we tended towards a scatter gun sales and marketing strategy, Neil and Mark have helped us focus on specific opportunities and work methodically to gain a secure foot hold in a huge market.”
